Comic 20100131

Go Go Godzilla. I quick piece done with the pen tool in GIMP and the wacom. Yes that is Godzilla with pasties and red panties.
Slutzilla

I have five rough Marla pages sitting here. Two start the school year and three finally get Marla sorted out with LLXL. In writing new stuff I've taken a shine to Marla.

Comic 20100130

True story. I understand the circumstances in which this happens, but it is still a waste of everybody's time.
Automated Call

Another last minute update. I had a strange day and tomorrow doesn't look much better.

Comic 20100129

I wasn't going to have an update today. Had work and some other essentials taking up some time. In a spare free moment I was doing these little doodle, and got to thinking about those tile slide games. This one would involve getting Q's morning in order. Each Morning

Very hurried putting this together since I'm short on time. If I can find an easy tile script I may actually work this through. I am not sure exactly when the next update will be. I may not get a chance to seriously work on things until Saturday.

Comic 20100128

I originally conceived this to be someplace else. More accurately, the idea for it came from Not a Good Apology but I didn't want to wait so far into the story to get Q thinking about sweet love.
Swollen Hardenings.

Something happens often when lettering these. For some reason my mind diverges from the script and I find I've written something I didn't intend to or phrased something a little differently. That happened on the several panels here. Originally Q was completely oblivious to what was happening to her but in the final version she admits to experimenting with self-arousal a little. It makes the punchline a little weaker I think.

To complete my need to be a pretentious art person I bought a Micron01 pen. Which makes a boring skinny line. I was going to accent some of this with the big, chunky Flair but I wanted to see how the micron lines scanned and how a picture looked with the thin line. It did make drawing hands easier. The next one I ink on paper I'll try to keep in mind to use the different pens. The blue gray outlines are other students in the hallway, really.

Comic 20100126

There is a Doltan at my son's school. That isn't her name, we can't really remember her real name. She doesn't have an eye patch, or black squiggly line hair. This was a hastily drawn comic and the hook I had for it fizzled. no hook is better than a fizzled hook. So this comic is a poor bridge to help move some days around in the story order. Doltan

Updates Update

Spent all of Sunday beating together a vector picture and didn't draw a comic. QT Alone Vote incentive

I'm working on something for Tuesday which I hope will be done by Tuesday. It is simple and poorly drawn so I'll probably finish it.

Comic 20100124

Last page with Gary, at least for now. I honestly don't have any plans for him past this. Whether we revisit inside Stovepipe again is up to fate to decide. I had an interesting time putting these pages together. I really didn't have to draw one face beyond Mikey's round eyes.

Stovepipe 6

Not sure exactly what is next. I have a few Marla pages at the thumbnail stage, but I'm at an area where I have to make sure I don't have two people in the same place at the same time. I will have time to work on something whether it is Monday's comic or just some practice work.

Thanks for reading.

Comic 20100123

I think one more page to go for Gary. Not sure if I can get it out by Sunday and maintain my sterling quality standards. After That I have roughs to finally finish Marla's summer.

Been stuck watching Lexx which some might remember as an often silly sci-fi show from years back. After my last foray into the new Doctor Who I'm thinking a crossover picture would be interesting.

Comic 20100122

I don't care for standalone splash pages as a reader, but I spent a little extra time with this drawing this so too bad for you. The rationale is that I'm introducing a new character, but the new character is only around for a few more pages. Tomorrow's comic won't be going anyplace either and has a splash half a page.

Comic 20100121

The day before yesterday I did everything except load the yesterday's comic into the queue. We are getting ready to get into Stovepipe. You may have noticed that all these current Gary and Mikey pages are poorly drawn, I've been doing them free hand with the pen tablet and not spending much time reworking the lines. The exception is Stovepipe itself. That element I did draw and ink on paper then scanned and cleaned. Stovepipe 3

Comic 20100120

In all its glory, the underworld legend of Stovepipe has arrived. 2 or 3 more pages to go in this arc. It is great fun not having to draw heads. Stovepipe 2

Comic 20100119

Whoops! forgot to upload this last night. I'm a few days ahead in having pages and i forget to upload them, meh.

Next page we will see Stovepipe in all its glory. If you have voted at TWC you have already seen Stovepipe.

Comic 20100118

There are a couple three more of these in the queue. Today sort of stalled for me in getting some drawing done. I'm going to be getting back into some racier material soon. I've done the preliminary sketches for some naughty stand alone pieces. I don't know whether they will be in the comic, used as promo pieces or put up on a gallery site somewhere. I'm staying motivated to get this stuff out.

Comic 20100117

This was a fun little thing to put together. I sort of left Mikey and Gary standing by the graveside and thought it'd be nice to do something with them. I think two more pages past this gets them in an interesting place.

Comic 20100116

Stovepipe is an actual scary story local legend in my small town. It has some surface similarities to the Legend of Sleepy Hollow. the stpry is based around a person who through misadventure lost his head in an accident. He finds a replacement in a stovepipe. If you go to the scene of the accident, a road Horseshoe Bend, and say Stovepipe three times he will come and take your head and leave you with the stovepipe.

I first heard this story about 30 years ago. Different version have different details, the one I heard was a little more embellished, but I only included the things I definitely remembered. My Stovepipe is several steps past the simple story.

Can't Count

it seems the last comic I posted (Cankers 11) may have been the 150th comic. I was sort of thinking about doing a special piece at that mark, but obviously I haven't. I was under the impression that the next comic was 150 because I think I was counting the array wrong in the js navigation.

All I know now is my schedule is wonky until the Saturday and even then who knows what will happen unscheduled.

Comic 20100114

My first official full comic done with vector lines using GIMP. I used the scanned rough as a guide and picked through curve by curve putting it together. It is a little disjointed in a few places but overall I'm happy with the results. Cankers 11 is the last 'Cankers' page . Yay! Roland escapes Mary's clutches .. for now.

I have never had great control over my drawn lines and even worse control when using the tablet. The vector is a little stale, but for finishing line work on the computer it is a little quicker and neater than slicking that tablet pen around.

From here I'm not sure which way I'm going. I have some background pages to do, I'm nearly ready to start the next school year, and a few other things laying around, particularly link images, vote incentives, and that sort of thing. Going to try a few more projects with the vector tool and see if I can refine it a little bit.

Comic 20100112

Hur dur is how it goes. Mary Wu, cougar or GMILF? These little side things really take off on paper. I decided on doing a few pairings with different characters, but for them to make sense it takes a little time. But the ten pages in Cankers have set up several things for later. There is one more page, likely just a few panels, then I'm going on to something else.

Hrmm thinking I've one more long term set-up to do in Cankers, but it may wait until Roland goes back for the tryouts. I guess it depends on how easy it draws. Cankers 10

Comic 20100111

We spent the unproductive time off last week watching the new Doctor Who series. We got into it really big.

Moving right along and Jazz Hands! Looks like two more pages to get out of Cankers. I've about had my fill of yellow background. Cankers 9

Comic 20100110

Introducing the new character Mr. Gareth. I think in the story this is his first appearance and not just the first time I've a live page with him in it. It looks like 3 or 4 more pages in this little bit depending on how the individual layouts go. I hope to get them out this week.

Comic 20100109

A bit of a low production spell on the comic. I may be snowed in today and that may give me more time to work on pictures. I made this one a little shorter. The Cankers series does have a purpose and is not just a grand aside. Cankers 7

Updates January Ninth

There have been some low level illnesses around the house that have been eating up some time. So, there are a number of pages that are waiting to be finished up.

I'm also playing around with a vector program. This doesn't contribute directly to a finished page, but will hopefully make things smoother in the future. I do use the vector program Inkscape to clean up line scans before layering them and coloring in GIMP. Now I'm using it haltingly to try and draw a few things.

To point, updates are coming as soon as possible.

Comic 20100103

Here we go second comic of 2010. I really need to bear down and figure out Roland's hair. and try to keep the faces on character. and backgrounds. shading. smoothness. Well, plenty to do in the coming months. Cankers 5

A little self-indulgence and then we leave Cankers for a tiny bit. It looks like it will be Roland and Mary for a little span. Then a little more Marla, then the second school year . I hope. I do have a few one-offs to sprinkle in the past.

Comic 20100101

this comic is fairly rushed. .. More rushed than usual. I hadn't much time on my hands and really wanted to get something put up on New Year's Day. The meeting between Roland and Mary was supposed to be a little more amiable and not until a wee bit later. There are a few threads that are loose that needed tightening up before the bigger story can proceed.

I also really wanted to do the Cankers event that will be coming up for my friend Brad, who gave me good encouragement when I started this project (and a few others) years ago. So we plod forward.
